According to the World Health Organization, there are millions of people who have severe vision impairment. Although there are some forms of vision impairment that are not treatable, over 75% of the cases are correctable through affordable cataract surgery.
For those in developing countries, many factors contribute to the loss of vision, such as poverty, malnutrition, hygiene, and climate. All of these conditions are prevalent in the Horn of Africa. Lack of sight can prevent a child from going to school, a family member from working or being able to look after their families.
For those in developing countries, lack of vision can be a matter of life and death. It can make a difference whether someone is able to survive.
