According to recent humanitarian assessments, millions of people in Somalia are experiencing acute hunger and food insecurity, with drought, conflict, and high food prices combining to push an estimated 4.4 million people into hunger by early 2025.

Amoud Foundation is the only organization on the ground in Somalia and other countries in the Horn of Africa that is solely focused on providing aid and long-term sufficiency to those suffering in the Horn of Africa.Amoud Foundation provides relief services in the form of Food Security, Clean Water Access, Health Care and much more! In fact, during the month of Ramadan 2025, Amoud Foundation provided over 2 million meals to displaced people in the Horn of Africa.

The Horn of Africa experiences distinct seasonal patterns tied to rainfall, including dry and rainy periods that determine agricultural success and food availability. In recent years, failed rainy seasons have contributed to deeper drought conditions and heightened food insecurity, leading to loss of livestock, crop failures, and severe strain on communities dependent on agriculture and pastoral livelihoods.

With continued dry conditions and climate instability, risk factors like loss of agriculture, vulnerability to disease, and rising hunger persist across the region, making emergency humanitarian assistance more critical than ever.

Food Aid

In 2025, millions of people across the Horn of Africa are facing acute food insecurity due to prolonged drought, conflict and soaring food prices.

Recent assessments estimate that up to 42 million people in the region are living with high levels of hunger and are at risk of severe food shortages. In Somalia alone, over 4 million people are facing acute hunger in 2025.

2 Million Meals

During the blessed month of Ramadan, Amoud Foundation strives to provide food to as many people as possible to ensure that all fasting individuals are being nourished. Launched in 2014, the program was previously called 1 Million Meals, but with the generosity of our supporters, the program has grown to provide 2 Million Meals every Ramadan.

Udhiya/Qurbani

For many families that Amoud Foundation supports, consuming meat is a rarity that they enjoy once a year during Eid al Adha (Festval of Sacrifice). Amoud Foundation provides meat to over 100,000 people through our Udhiya/Qurbani program.

Hot Meals

Throughout the year, Amoud Foundation provides hot, cooked meals to families living in IDP camps. In 2025, over 2 million cooked meals were distributed.

Regional strife, natural disasters, and disease are among the many factors which leave so many children in the Horn of Africa orphaned and destitute. These factors cause the life of an orphan to be very daunting. Many of them without both parents living a life of neglect. Imagine the loss of the tender care of a mother or the strong support and protection of a father. Millions of children are living without food, shelter, and in devastating conditions. These precious children face so many challenges each day.

Amoud Foundation strives to ease their hardship and suffering by providing shelter, food, education, clothes, access to medical services, as well as support and care to these special children.

They ask you, [O Muḥammad], what they should spend. Say, “Whatever you spend of good is [to be] for parents and relatives and orphans and the needy and the traveler. And whatever you do of good – indeed, Allah is Knowing of it.”

For only $1 a day, $30 monthly, or $360 yearly, a donor can provide the fundamental necessities that all young children deserve. Through our Sponsor an Orphan program, an orphan will receive:

Amoud Foundation has been a pioneer in the Horn of Africa in establishing health clinics and hospitals, like Al Hayatt hospital in Somalia, to ensure that those who can’t afford healthcare, are able to receive the treatment and care they need.

Today, Amoud Foundation’s Al Hayatt Hospital is a well-renowned teaching and referring hospital. With plans to expand the facility to include Emergency Room wings and surgical facilities, your donations are more important than ever!

In addition to Al Hayatt, Amoud Foundation has funded a medical clinic at Dur in South Central Somalia and remodeled the fistula wing at Madina Hospital in Mogadishu.

 

Every year, several containers of medical equipment and supplies are shipped to health facilities in the Horn of Africa.

Amoud foundation has focused efforts to revive the health system in Somalia by establishing al-Hayatt hospital in 2010. with the goal to be the premier medical destination for treatment and education in the Amoud valley, al Hayatt hospital has been leading the way to provide top-tier healthcare to those who need it most.

Through the generosity of our amoud foundation donors and our partnership with baylor, scott, and white health, the vulnerable people of the horn of africa will benefit from another container of medical equipment and supplies shipped today. these beneficiaries are among the most vulnerable and needy in the world in addition to the threat of the covid pandemic. some of the items in our most recent shipment include much needed supplies, such as gloves, hygiene kits, baby formula, and masks along with medical equipment such as examination tables, wheelchairs, and surgical tools.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

Many countries have been suffering from draught, famine, and poverty caused by natural disasters or war. Then Covid-19 hit the world, and the suffering multiplied many folds.

Amoud Foundation started digging wells after the historic drought of 2011 which caused the death of about 258,000 people.

Rasoul Allah salla Allah 3allayhi wa sallam says,
Seven continuously provide reward for a worshiper in his grave,
whoever taught beneficial knowledge, whoever dug a river, dug a well, planted palm trees, build a masjid, left as his heritage the Quran, or left a righteous child who asks for forgiveness for him after he dies.

Somalia Flood Emergency

Thousands of Somalis have been forced to flee their homes in the last few days, taking the total number of displacements during 2020 to a staggering hundred of thousands of people. In the region that was already affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the monsoon season has broken havoc on thousands of vulnerable communities. They are in a state of trauma and desperately looking for help as they have had to evacuate their homes.

Amoud Foundation’s field teams are delivering emergency humanitarian assistance to several areas of Somalia and Ethiopia. They are also assessing the upcoming threats and the needs of affected communities. Devastating flash floods have washed away thousands of homes and livestock that were the single source of food and income for villagers. The situation is calling for an emergency supply of food, mosquito nets, and shelter and sanitation items.
